Crave Youth Group Fundraising Events
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
The Crave Youth Group is planning a number of events over the next few months and we'd sure like to partner with you in fun, fellowship, food and fundraising! Are you with us? Fund raising events are swinging into high gear, in anticipation of sending as many of our youth as possible to the FLY Convention July 4th - 9th, 2011, in beautiful Estes Park Colorado.
How can you help?
Pray: Pray for the youth of Good Shepherd and for the youth of Camarillo. Pray that lives will be changed and that souls will be won for Jesus.
Partner: Partner with our youth and be a part of their lives.......encourage, mentor, and support them in all that they do!
Participate: Come to the fund raising events over the next few months and enjoy a meal, get your car washed, take advantage of child care provided on "Date Night" and take your sweetheart on a date, and start bringing your items for the upcoming church yard sale.

Announcing FLY 2011

FLY Convetion 2011
Estes Park, Colorado
The FLY (Free Lutheran Youth) Convention is a nation wide youth event that takes place in Estes Park, CO. Youth from all over the nation will be gathering to learn more about God's Word and have a great time in a Christian environment. The theme for the 2011 FLY Convention is "It Is Written" taken from John 20.
Every other summer, we take between 20 and 30 youth and a number of families from Good Shepherd to this week-long Bible-based convention. Located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountians, at the YMCA of the Rockies Convention Center, students and families have an incredible opportunity to take in God's amazing creation, enjoy sweet fellowship, and get in touch with the Lord. Last year, nearly 60 youth, kids, and parents from Camarillo joined us. We are looking ahead to next summer and praying that God would send 100 people with us. Want to come? You won't be disappointed. Watch for more details to come soon. In the meantime, check out the FLY Website at www.aflc.org/youth/fly.
As a way to show our appreciation to the people of former First Lutheran Church for their generosity in offering their church property to us, our youth group visited some families of that group on Sunday, March 21, to give personal invitations to an appreciation dinner we held the following week, March 28. Youth Group dad and Good Shepherd Elder, Mark Hiepler, led us on a short trip to about 10 homes. We did three things when we visited each family: 1. Introduced ourselves and thanked them for their generosity. 2. Invited them to come to an appreciation dinner held the following Sunday, March 28 at the Arneill Campus. 3. Took a picture with them to be given later as a memento of our visit and so they can become familiar with who we are.
An appreciation dinner was held at the 380 Arneill Campus on March 28. We invited the members of former First Lutheran Church to come to the fellowship hall for a Lasagna Dinner. After we served them dinner, we shared with them what the Lord is doing in our church and youth group. Crave students Suzi Spooner and Israel Schleifer shared testimonies, a video of our ministry was shown, and our newly formed worship band led the people in a few songs. We used this as an opportunity to give back to them for showing kindness to our church in offering their church campus to us.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Learning to Serve Others in Love
Pictured above: This Thanksgiving, Good Shepherd youth participated in our second annual Thanksgiving food drive in Village at the Park. Together with help from the neighborhood, we collected about 160 bags of food. The food was delivered to the RAIN Project, a homeless shelter on Lewis Rd. in Camarillo, near CSU Channel Islands. Students went door to door collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items.
Pictured above: Six students from Good Shepherd's Crave Student Ministry attended "Turn Your Campus 2010" at Biola University in January. Turn Your Campus is a one-day conference with a focus on motivating, training, and equipping Christian students to share their faith with their lives and their words in their own communities. Over 30 workshops are offered for Jr. High and High School students, youth workers, and educators.
Small Group Outings: Going Deeper in Relationships in 2010...
This year, we want to be more intentional about getting to know all of our students and building personal relationships with each of them. One way we plan to do this is to start Friday and Saturday night "Small Group Outings," offered periodically throughout each month. Students will have a chance to sign up to have a night out with our student ministry staff. Activities will range from school sporting events, bowling, mini-golf, movie or game nights, or simply hanging out at a coffee shop to chat. Does this interest you? We would love to get to know our students better! See Chad for dates and times.
About "CRAVE" Youth Ministry
The Good Shepherd youth group, "CRAVE," now meets at Good Shepherd's new church campus. You can find us at 380 Arneill Rd. in Central Camarillo.
Crave gets its name from 1 Peter 2:2-3, which says, "Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." We want students crave the Word of God, spending time in the Bible every day.
Jared Langness and Naomi Finney work as leaders in our student ministry.
Jared is a graduate of Northwestern College in Minnesota and teaches full-time at Oaks Christian in Thousand Oaks. He and Naomi are graduates of Association Free Lutheran Bible School in Minneapolis. We’re praying for other like-minded, advisors who want to serve on the team and point others to Christ and love students. If you know of other candidates, please contact us.
"Thanks for caring about students who want to become followers of Jesus Christ."
