Our umbrella of support and prayer in Minneapolis…
Good Shepherd grew out of a circle of evangelism-minded Lutherans in Camarillo. We soon found support in a family of Lutheran churches based in Minneapolis, Minn. AFLC Home Missions rallies around us and cares for us, praying for us and providing us with consulting work and monthly funds to help our ministry family in these early months of our ministry.
The AFLC Home Missions Office is located at 3110 E. Medicine Lake Blvd., Minneapolis, MN, 55441. That team supervises and supports about 20 new congregations across the country. The evangelical Lutheran church plants are mostly in the Midwest, but new starts have sprouted in California, Maryland and Florida and in western Washington most recently.
Pastor Paul Nash, long-time friend of Good Shepherd, serves as director of AFLC Home Missions. His office is located at 3110 E. Medicine Lake Blvd., Plymouth, MN, 55441. He served as interim pastor for Good Shepherd in between the time former Pastor Rodger Olson served and the coming of Pastor Jim Johnson in July 2007.
“AFLC Home Missions focus is on families,” says Pastor Nash, who visits our pastor regularly and is known as a great friend to the Johnson children. Pastor Nash and the seven-member home mission committee have served to encourage us in the Lord and do all he can to build up our family – from birthday cards and painting the living room walls, to talking to the kids about their relationship with the Lord and calling Pastor Jim “just to pray.” Says Pastor Nash: “We want the children of home mission pastors to have a real and personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We know that our Home Missions pastors have a tough job and that the enemy is constantly working to get them frustrated and discouraged.”
The home mission office includes Kristen Agrimson, a long-time member of Good Shepherd in Camarillo. Ministry pilot Lavon Bohling also serves with the team. “In order to better serve our Home Missions pastors out on the field, we have started compiling resources from our office and also from some of our own pastors,” says Pastor Nash.
Pastor Johnson sends monthly reports to AFLC Home Missions.
