Good Shepherd Lutheran Early Childhood Center offers a balanced combination of hands-on learning and structured classroom time, while developing each child's joy of knowing the Lord.

   We begin each school year by taking time to learn about each other and our families.  We make self portraits, team picture collages and bring pictures of our family to school to share with the class.  Through out the year, we practice math concepts using puzzles, magnetic building toys, blocks and counting games.  We develop fine motor skills by using play dough, clay and sorting games using tweezers.  We learn about colors and how they can be combined to make new colors in our science centers.  We work on large motor development doing long jump activities, an egg balance game and learning to ride the large variety of riding vehicles on the track in our east yard.  Using the old fashioned water pump, we learn to water the seeds and plants in our yard and care for them.  Some of these plants will provide edible fruits,vegetables and herbs when they mature.  On special days, we cook in our kitchen and enjoy eating what we have made.  We are continually working on social-emotional development by taking turns during circle time, and working together on puzzles, games and doing team projects.
   The children have a great time with Miss Mary during chapel time on Wednesdays.  They learn about God's creation and God's power and love during chapel.  After one Wednesday, the children shared that they loved taking turns adding all of the plants, animals, birds, clouds, etc. that God created to a large felt board that Miss Mary used in her teaching. 
   We periodically offer parenting classes taught by Barbara Richert.  Our classes are open to all parents of young children.  Call the preschool office to ask about classes. 
   We encourage parents to take some time during each week to walk through their child's classroom, check the bulletin boards and review their child's home/school communication folder.  We want parents to stay informed and feel included in their child's experiences here at Good Shepherd Preschool.
